The Magpie Consort is a group of 16 – 20 singers based in Columbus, Ohio. We perform a wide variety of repertoire, collected in magpie fashion from many parts of the world and from different musical traditions: medieval chants, sacred and secular Renaissance gems, folk song and world music arrangements, and contemporary compositions. We enjoy collaborating with instrumentalists and others – and we also like to include our audiences in making music.
Our next program, in December this year, will be an all-American medley of folk, gospel, jazz, and classical songs of the season, from many parts of the USA, and from the 18th century to the present. The menu includes music from the California Missions, traditional carols from Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and Hawaii, foot-tapping gospel arrangements by Keith McCutchen, classic 19th century American carols, and Christmas music by William Billings, George Bristow, and Charles Ives. We’ll be previewing some of these songs in a collaboration with Columbus Alternative High School in November.
See our concerts page for further information.
Our entire 2025 – 26 season is generously supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC).
