ACCLAIM FOR THE MAGPIE CONSORT

Central Ohio is blessed with numerous and varied small-to-medium-sized ensembles that focus on aspects of what is commonly referred to as "classical music."  One of these ensembles that stands out is the Magpie Consort, a group of 12 singers often augmented by solo or small group instrumentalists. The consort's adventurous programming, the work of music director Sheena Phillips, helps set it apart and give it an identity separate from not only many central Ohio ensembles, but also from musical offerings available in many cities not named New York, Boston or Chicago.

Jim Fischer, This Week (Columbus newspaper), June 5, 2003

The Magpie Consort is a welcome addition to the music scene, providing programming unique to the area.  Their performances are interesting and contain a special energy that is only realized when the artists truly believe in what they are doing.   Magpie concerts draw a large number of area musicians, and this clearly validates the Consort as a vital and creative organization.

Robert Trocchia, Director, The Lancaster Chorale (professional chorus), Ohio

The ensemble's concerts are always characterized by imaginative programming and usually include some of the director's original compositions, many with a medieval flavor and all of them attractive.

S Ronald Cook Jr, Music Director, The Early Interval and President of Early Music America

It is good to have a new, and different in the best sense of the word, musical group in Columbus.  I wish continued success to the consort.
